Tata Steel Limited has provided an update on two material litigations concerning its Sukinda Chromite Block. The first, Writ Petition (Civil) No. 22431 of 2025, relates to a Demand Letter dated July 3, 2025, from the Office of Deputy Director of Mines, Jajpur, demanding ₹1902.73 crore for revised assessment of mineral dispatch shortfall. The Company filed a writ petition on August 8, 2025, seeking to quash this demand. The Hon'ble High Court of Orissa at Cuttack granted interim protection, restraining coercive action, which has been extended multiple times and was valid until January 29, 2026. The second, Writ Petition (Civil) No. 31035 of 2025, pertains to another Demand Letter dated October 3, 2025, demanding ₹2410.90 crore for alleged shortfall in chrome ore dispatch for the fifth year. The Company filed its writ petition on October 29, 2025. Similar to the first case, interim protection was granted on November 21, 2025, and extended until January 29, 2026. Today, January 29, 2026, the Hon'ble High Court heard both petitions and has further extended the interim protection for both matters until the next hearing scheduled for February 2, 2026.
