Tata Steel Limited has received a favorable order from the Joint Commissioner of CGST & Central Excise, Jamshedpur, concerning a Show Cause cum Demand Notice (SCN) issued against erstwhile Tata Steel Long Products Limited (TSLP), which has since amalgamated with Tata Steel. The SCN had demanded ₹161.51 crore as input tax credit compensation cess, allegedly irregularly availed by TSLP between April 2019 and February 2024. It also sought to appropriate ₹160.28 crore already reversed by the company and proposed a penalty of ₹161.51 crore. The company had made submissions on merits before the authority. The order dated December 17, 2025, passed by the Joint Commissioner, acknowledged that Tata Steel had already paid ₹160.28 crore while filing its GST returns, which stands appropriated. The remaining demand of ₹1.23 crore has been dropped, effectively setting aside the aggregate tax demand of ₹161.51 crore. Furthermore, no penalty has been imposed on the company. This disclosure is made in compliance with SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
