SJVN Limited's Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) has achieved a historic milestone by crossing 150 billion units (BU) of cumulative power generation since its commissioning in May 2004. This achievement underscores NJHPS's role as India's largest underground hydro power station and its significant contribution to clean energy generation and national power grid stability. To commemorate this landmark, celebrations were held at the Power House in the presence of Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, and Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel). Sh. Bhupender Gupta highlighted the station's consistent operational reliability and its crucial role in delivering dependable green energy during peak demand periods. He also noted NJHPS's record annual generation of 7,610.257 million units in FY 2011-12, a record monthly generation of 1,222.170 million units in July 2024, and a record daily generation of 39.572 million units on August 13, 2024. Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma lauded the efforts of past and present employees, emphasizing the project's contribution to regional development and economic growth. The 150 BU milestone also signifies substantial environmental benefits, including the displacement of fossil-fuel-based generation and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with India's clean energy transition and climate commitments. NJHPS continues to benefit from modernization, digital monitoring, and rigorous maintenance, contributing to regional socio-economic development through employment and infrastructure growth.
