Paradeep Phosphates Limited has received a Seizure Memo from the Customs Department, Marmagoa, Goa, concerning 25,000 MTs of Technical Grade Urea. The assessable value of the seized urea, imported for manufacturing NPK fertilizers, is ₹103.30 crores. The company received this communication on January 24th, 2026. The alleged violation pertains to the Biuret content in the imported goods being higher than the permissible limit, as per a test report from Central Revenues Control Laboratory (CRCL), New Delhi. The company contests the testing methodology and the alleged violation of DGFT notification No. 79/2015-2020 read with Foreign Trade Policy and provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Paradeep Phosphates Limited stated that there is currently no material impact on its financials or operations. The company is pursuing legal recourse for the provisional release of the seized goods, intending to use them for captive consumption as raw material at its Goa plant. They are also persuading Customs authorities to re-test the samples according to the Indian Standard IS 1781:2022.
