Ola Electric Mobility Limited has announced that its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh), has received approval from the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT), a government testing agency, under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989. This certification signifies that the motorcycle is powered by an in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack, making it the first electric motorcycle in India to achieve this. The Roadster X+ boasts an industry-leading range of up to 500 km, which is attributed to the high energy density and thermal performance of Ola's proprietary 4680 Bharat Cell technology. This extended range aims to make long-distance and inter-city electric motorcycling practical, opening up possibilities for adoption in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets beyond the metros.

Ola Electric views this certification as a significant milestone in its journey towards developing end-to-end EV technology within India. The company plans to commence deliveries of the Roadster X+ (9.1kWh) following this approval. The 4680 Bharat Cell platform, which powers the Roadster X+, will also be utilized in other products, including Ola Shakti, underscoring the company's commitment to vertical integration across its product lines, from cells and battery packs to vehicle platforms.

The certification process involved rigorous vehicle-level testing, including safety, electrical, performance, and environmental assessments, as mandated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The battery pack itself has also recently obtained ARAI certification under AIS-156 Amendment 4, successfully passing stringent safety and durability tests such as water immersion, thermal runaway, fire safety, vibration, and mechanical shock tests. This achievement reinforces Ola Electric's focus on battery safety and robustness, aligning with its vision to create world-class electric mobility solutions from India through deep vertical integration.
