Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has been directed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to pay a financial disincentive of ₹7,00,000 (Rupees Seven Lakhs only). This penalty is for contravening the Standards of Quality of Service of Access (Wireline and Wireless) and Broadband (Wireline and Wireless) Service Regulations, 2024, specifically for Access Service (Wireless) during the month of August 2025. The order, dated February 19, 2026, was received by MTNL on February 20, 2026. The TRAI's analysis indicated that MTNL failed to meet the benchmark for Call Set-up Success Rate (Inter-Service provider) and the availability of service-wise geospatial coverage maps on its website. The penalty of ₹7,00,000 is comprised of ₹1,00,000 for the Call Set-up Success Rate violation and ₹3,00,000 each for two instances related to the availability of geospatial coverage maps, where the provided links were found to be non-functional or not displaying the required information. TRAI noted that while there was a mismatch in the performance data for 'Worst Affected Cells due to downtime', the company's corrective actions for subsequent months led TRAI to decide against taking further action on that specific issue, while advising MTNL to ensure error-free PMR submissions in the future. MTNL is required to pay the total disincentive within twenty-one days from the date of the order.
