Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has been directed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to pay a financial disincentive of ₹6,00,000 (Rupees Six Lakhs only). This penalty is for contravening the provisions of the Standards of Quality of Service of Access (Wireline and Wireless) and Broadband (Wireline and Wireless) Service Regulations, 2024, specifically for Access Service (Wireless) during July 2025. The order, dated February 04, 2026, was received by MTNL on February 06, 2026. The contravention pertains to the non-publication of service-wise geospatial coverage maps for wireless services on MTNL's website as required by TRAI directions. Despite MTNL reporting compliance, TRAI found the provided links non-functional and the explanations unsatisfactory. The penalty comprises ₹3,00,000 for the non-availability of 2G geospatial coverage maps and another ₹3,00,000 for the non-availability of 3G geospatial coverage maps. TRAI stated that there is no material impact on the financial, operational, or other activities of MTNL due to this violation. MTNL is required to pay the fine within twenty-one days of the order's issue date.
