Maruti Suzuki India Limited has launched India's first flex-fuel car, the Wagon R, on June 4, 2026. This innovation allows customers to use any blend of ethanol and petrol, from E20 to E100. The launch, attended by Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri, aligns with India's vision for energy security and sustainability. Flex-fuel vehicles are expected to reduce crude oil imports, boost farmer incomes, and lower emissions. Shri Nitin Gadkari highlighted the importance of biofuels like ethanol in reducing oil dependence and strengthening the rural economy, encouraging other manufacturers to adopt flex-fuel technology. Shri Hardeep Singh Puri emphasized the 'annadata' to 'urjadata' transformation and the multi-faceted benefits of flex-fuel vehicles for the nation. Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of Maruti Suzuki, stated the company's commitment to offering diverse technologies, including BEVs, Hybrids, CNG/CBG, and ethanol flex-fuel vehicles, to meet India's goals of reducing oil imports and carbon emissions. The company aims to popularize flex-fuel adoption in India, contributing to cleaner energy and enhanced domestic value addition.
