KPI Green Energy Limited, as part of the KP Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Botswana. This collaboration focuses on the development of large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure.
The MoU was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, which includes KPI Green Energy Limited, KP Energy Limited, and KP Green Engineering Limited. The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation on planning, developing, and implementing renewable energy and associated transmission projects.
The partnership aims to strengthen Botswana’s energy security and position it as a clean power exporter. Under the MoU, KP Group and the Government of Botswana will work together to develop renewable energy and infrastructure projects requiring a capital investment of approximately $4 billion (₹36,000 crore). These projects are expected to increase Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 GW and include upgrading and constructing high-voltage transmission lines within Botswana, as well as strengthening interconnections with neighboring countries.
Additionally, KP Group will support 30 scholarships annually for Botswana citizens to pursue education and skill development in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and allied disciplines. This initiative aims to build local capacity and foster knowledge transfer.
Hon. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy for Botswana, highlighted the MoU as a significant step towards a sustainable energy future and accelerating clean energy deployment. Dr. Faruk G. Patel, Founding Promoter and Chairman of KP Group, stated that the MoU reflects a shared vision to accelerate the energy transition and unlock Botswana's vast solar and wind potential, aiming for net-zero by 2030 and enabling regional clean energy exports.
KP Group will lead technical and commercial development activities, including feasibility studies, project design, financing, construction, commissioning, and long-term operation and maintenance of the projects. This collaboration represents a strategic expansion of KP Group's renewable energy footprint beyond India.
