KP Energy partners with Botswana Govt for ₹36,000 Cr renewable energy projects
December 17, 2025, 11:41 AM
K.P. Energy Limited (KPEL), as part of the KP Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to collaborate on the development of large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure.
This MoU signifies a major step in KP Group's international expansion and Botswana's goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030. The agreement was established between Botswana's Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, which includes KPI Green Energy Limited, KP Energy Limited, and KP Green Engineering Limited. The collaboration aims to strengthen Botswana's energy security and position it as a regional clean power exporter.
The joint development of renewable energy and infrastructure projects will require a capital investment of approximately $4 billion (₹36,000 crore), with the goal of increasing Botswana's renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 GW. This includes upgrading and constructing high-voltage transmission lines within Botswana and enhancing interconnections with neighboring countries.
Furthermore, KP Group will provide 30 scholarships annually for Batswana citizens to pursue education and skill development in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and related fields, fostering local capacity building and knowledge transfer.
Hon. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy for Botswana, emphasized the partnership's role in accelerating clean energy deployment and regional power connectivity. Dr. Faruk G. Patel, Founding Promoter and Chairman of KP Group, highlighted the shared vision to unlock Botswana's solar and wind potential and create long-term economic value through investments and clean energy exports.
KP Group will manage technical and commercial development, including feasibility studies, design, financing, construction, commissioning, and operations. This collaboration aligns with KP Group's strategic expansion into emerging markets and Botswana's commitment to diversifying its energy mix away from fossil fuels.
