More Details on This News

JSW Thermal Energy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, has entered into a supply contract with its associate company, Toshiba JSW Power Systems Private Limited. This contract is for the procurement of two steam turbine generators, each with a capacity of 800 MW, for the company's thermal project located in Salboni, West Bengal.

The turbine-generator package is expected to be manufactured and supplied in accordance with the project's construction schedule, thereby facilitating the timely completion and commissioning of the Salboni plant. By sourcing this critical equipment through an associate company, JSW Energy aims to enhance supply-chain certainty, improve coordination during the execution phase, and mitigate risks associated with industry-wide equipment shortages.

JSW Energy currently operates a thermal generation capacity of 5,658 MW. With the 1,600 MW Salboni project under construction and an additional option to add 1,800 MW at KSK Mahanadi, the company's total thermal capacity is projected to reach 9,058 MW. This capacity will constitute approximately 30% of JSW Energy's total locked-in capacity of 30.5 GW, highlighting the balanced role of thermal power within its overall generation portfolio.

Mr. Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, stated that the contract with Toshiba JSW is a strategic move to strengthen supply-chain control and ensure execution certainty for the Salboni Thermal Project. He emphasized the company's long-standing association with Toshiba, which began in 2008, and its foundation on shared values of excellence and innovation. Mr. Mahendra further noted that the Salboni project aligns with the company's commitment to supporting India's energy security by adding reliable baseload capacity that complements the nation's growing renewable energy footprint.

JSW Energy has a total locked-in generation capacity of 30.5 GW, which includes 13.3 GW of operational capacity and 12.4 GW under construction across thermal and renewable energy sources. Additionally, the company has 150 MW of hydro capacity under acquisition and a pipeline of 4.6 GW. The company also has 29.4 GWh of locked-in energy storage capacity, comprising 26.4 GWh from hydro pumped storage projects and 3.0 GWh from battery energy storage systems. JSW Energy aims to achieve a total generation capacity of 30 GW and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by FY 2030, with a goal of achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
