Jindal Steel announced a significant expansion of its structural steel manufacturing capabilities at its Raigarh facility. The company plans to double its existing structural steel capacity from 1.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 2.4 MTPA by mid-2028. This expansion will enhance the availability of heavy and ultra-heavy structural steel sections in India. The expansion involves commissioning a new, dedicated structural steel mill and upgrading upstream and downstream technologies. This will enable the manufacture of larger and more complex parallel flange sections, with depths up to 1,100 mm and weights up to 1,500 kg per metre. These enhanced capabilities will cater to growing demand from infrastructure, refinery, power, renewable energy, transmission, and high-rise construction projects. Subrat Panda, Head – Structures & CSB, Jindal Steel, stated that doubling the capacity is a strategic step towards building long-term domestic capability for large and complex projects, enabling faster execution and reduced dependence on imports.
