InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) will temporarily discontinue its flight operations to and from Manchester effective August 31, 2026. This decision is driven by continuing international airspace constraints, leading to significantly increased flight durations and a challenging cost environment. Consequently, IndiGo plans to return one of the six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, which were on damp/wet lease from Norse Atlantic Airways. IndiGo had initially leased these six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in early 2025 to establish its brand in the European market before commencing services with its own Airbus A350 aircraft. However, the airline has faced industry-wide challenges including geopolitical developments in the Middle East, rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs, severe airspace constraints, and foreign exchange volatility, resulting in operating costs significantly higher than initially projected. Abhijit Dasgupta, Senior Vice President - Network Planning & Revenue Management, IndiGo, stated that while demand for the India-Manchester route was encouraging, longer flying times and escalating costs necessitated this temporary discontinuation. He expressed gratitude to customers, trade partners, and Manchester Airport, reinforcing the airline's belief in the long-haul market opportunity and its intention to serve the route again at the earliest viable opportunity. IndiGo will also explore innovative solutions for continuing its collaboration with Norse Atlantic Airways. IndiGo will notify affected customers in advance and assist them with alternative travel arrangements or refunds.
