CMS Info Systems Limited has released its 'India's Consumption Story CY’25 - CMS Consumption Report', highlighting the resilience of Indian consumers and the sustained use of cash, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas (SURU). The report indicates that retail consumption is broad-based, with growth seen in insurance, organised retail chains, and consumer durables sectors. This signifies a shift towards regulated, formal, and upgrade-oriented consumption, supported by festive demand and the impact of GST reforms. Cash usage remains structurally embedded, with the average cash dispensed per ATM at ₹1.21 Crore in CY'25, peaking at ₹1.30 Crore in November 2025. The monthly average ATM withdrawal ticket size increased by 4.5% to ₹5,835 in CY'25 from ₹5,586 in CY'24. SURU regions led in ATM cash withdrawals with an annual average of ₹1.30 Crore, compared to ₹1.18 Crore in metros and ₹1.11 Crore in urban cities. Mr. Anush Raghavan, Chief Business Officer at CMS, commented that the report captures the underlying resilience of the Indian consumer, with households rebalancing priorities rather than cutting back. Spending has become more deliberate, focusing on value, protection, and utility, reflected in stronger momentum across organised retail and consumer durables.
