Bharti Airtel Limited (Airtel) announced an investment of US$ 1 Billion in its subsidiary, Nxtra Data Limited (Nxtra), to expand its data center network across India and accelerate growth. The investment round is led by Alpha Wave Global, Carlyle, and Anchorage Capital, with Airtel also participating. Alpha Wave Global will invest US$435 million, Carlyle US$240 million, and Anchorage Capital US$35 million. Airtel will infuse the remaining amount, totaling approximately US$290 million, in cash consideration for additional shares in Nxtra Data. Following the transaction, Nxtra is expected to be valued at around US$3.1 billion. Airtel will maintain a controlling stake in Nxtra, and the deal is subject to regulatory approvals. Nxtra plans to deploy the proceeds to scale its infrastructure and broaden its service portfolio, catering to enterprises, hyperscalers, and government organizations. The company currently has approximately 300 MW capacity and aims to scale to 1 GW in the coming years, targeting a 25% market share. Nxtra operates 14 large core data centers and over 120 edge facilities across India. The Special Committee of Directors of Bharti Airtel approved this investment on March 30, 2026.
