ABB India Limited has announced the dispatch of its first wind power converter manufactured in India, following the acquisition of Gamesa Electric's power electronics business in December 2025. This converter was produced at ABB's Nelamangala facility in Bengaluru and shipped to a wind turbine original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
This milestone signifies ABB's enhanced commitment to the renewable energy sector, particularly wind power, aligning with India's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' initiatives. The company is strengthening its renewable energy footprint with a focus on wind power, alongside its existing offerings in utility-scale solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Anoop Anand, President of ABB India's Motion High Power Division, stated that the locally manufactured power conversion technologies will improve the integration of wind power into the grid and support the scaling of renewable energy globally. He also highlighted that this reinforces India's status as a global hub for renewable energy manufacturing and deployment.
India is recognized as the world's third-largest wind manufacturing base and is projected to meet approximately 10 percent of global wind demand, with installed wind capacity expected to reach 107 GW by 2030. ABB has a long-standing history in renewable energy, having delivered over 60,000 wind converters and generators globally. The acquisition of Gamesa Electric's business is expected to expand ABB's serviceable installed base of wind converters by approximately 46 gigawatts.
ABB India's comprehensive renewable portfolio includes utility-scale solar inverters, power conversion systems for BESS, and converters for wind power, all manufactured locally to support India's renewable energy targets, including the national goal of 500 GW by 2030. ABB is a global technology leader in electrification and automation, with a history spanning over 140 years.
